Tom Ford Broke My Heart

About five years ago, I was still living in Chicago in my single girl apartment with its fabulous pink kitchen.  I had yet to start much of a book collection at the time, but had been coveting the Tom Ford book.

I mean it's gorgeous...and that's just the outside!  The images within are lust worthy for days.

But this heavy duty book (weighing in around ten pounds) came with an equally heavy price tag.

I saved up from my meager zoo keeper salary and, when I had enough, walked myself just down the street to the Borders on the corner of Clark Street and Diversey Parkway.

They had one copy in stock!

Carefully wrapped in cellophane, my book was clutched to my chest as I grinned all the way back to my apartment to find just the perfect spot to display it in the living room.

It was my biggest book purchase to date.

So, you can imagine my dismay when my book began to look like this...

What the #@*&%?  Am I right!?!  I'm sorry, but any book that costs over 100 bones should never deteriorate to this.  And I take good care of my sh*t, yo.  Especially something I consider as sacred as this book.  What once was displayed with pride is now tucked away on a shelf in a sad little corner of the room mostly forgotten.  I don't know why the hell it did this.  It's not the only one...I've seen a few others on blogs that, while not as in as bad of condition as mine, they are well on their way.  So buyer beware...you buy this book and a few years down the road it may start to look like this.

And that is how Tom Ford broke my heart.

Tom, if you're listening, I'll totally let you make it up to me.

  1. Oh boo! That's horrible! I always worry about spending so much money on things... that's why I shop ebay or get the coupons and whatnot (at least when Borders still existed in my town) or pool in with my sister on buy 2 get one free type things.... So sad! I've been dreaming over the gorgeous designer coffee table books. I'll have to keep my eyes open now. I do, however, kinda like the destressed look. It looks well-loved. ;)

    Much Love,

  2. This post makes me laugh because mine has only sat on a shelf for three years as well - I never even touch it - and it has gotten just as worn! I was disappointed with mine but yours looks kind of cool!

  3. That sucks! What the hell, Tom??
Good to know I might as well just buy it used and pre-worn since its going to end up like that anyway.
